Daisy & Tom... and Gatsby

I've just re-read the F Scott Fitzgerald's classic and am once again under the spell of the romantic roaring 20s...here are some of my favourite snippets and quotes...

In his blue gardens men and girls came and went like moths among the whisperings and the champagne and the stars.
- On first being intoroduced to Gatsby and one of his lavish parties, Chapter 3

The officer looked at Daisy while she was speaking, in a way every young girl wants to be looked at some time...
- Gatsby's charm rubbing off on Daisy before her marriage to Tom, Chapter 4
...I think he revalued everything in his house according to the measure of response it drew from her well-loved eyes.
- Gatsby showing Daisy around his mansion, Chapter 5

The rain was still falling, but the darkness had parted in the west, and there was a pink and golden billow of foamy clouds above the sea.
“Look at that,” she whispered, and then after a moment: “I'd like to just get one of those pink clouds and put you in it and push you around.”
- Daisy Buchanan after being reunited with Jay Gatsby, Chapter 5

I absolutely can't wait to see Baz Luhrmann's remake starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey Mulligan and supermodel, Gemma Ward http://www.vogue.co.uk/news/2011/08/31/gemma-ward-lands-role-in-the-great-gatsby

A Million Little Pieces

In spite of the controversy surrounding this book I URGE you to read it. It charts 23 year old James Frey's journey through rehab in an attempt to recover from his heavy addiction to alcohol and drugs (whether accurately or not is the issue the critics have been furiously debating since it rose to a number 1 best-seller after featuring on Oprah). As we watch him try and put back together a soul that has smashed into 'A Million Little Pieces', this gripping page-turner will now stay with me long after it's been put back on my shelf. And despite the complicated personalities and characters I'm going to miss them now i can't read about them anymore - next book?

PS - I've heard rumours it's going to make the leap from page to screen. Although exceptionally dark in places I think it would be brilliant. Going to try and find out more...

The Ace of Spades plus Revlon's New Ladies

Kate Spade New York hit the capital with a bang last week as it celebrated the launch of two new flagship stores in Sloane Square and Covent Garden. Deborah Lloyd hosted a star-studded party to celebrate what I'm sure will be a hugely successful move overseas.

Read the low-down from Deborah Lloyd when I spoke to her at the launch party in Sloane Square:

Bryce Dallas Howard in the Kate Spade campaign:

Bryce Dallas Howard stars in Katharine Stockett's The Help which is due to be released in November. Co-star Emma Stone has recently been announced as the new face of Revlon - check out my write-up here:  http://www.vogue.co.uk/beauty/news/2011/08/10/revlon-signs-emma-stone-and-olivia-wilde-as-new-brand-ambassdors
