Victoria

I was able to treat myself to a Heavenly Hands manicure at South Molton Street's Nails Inc yesterday, thanks to a generous birthday voucher I received back in June. I adore this deep brown, Victoria - here's to hoping it lasts through a good stretch of the start of the Christmas season.

Perky Pink

Having found November a little gloomy, last weekend I decided adding a pink streak to the underside of my hair was a sure way to perk things up.

The Vogue View

A brilliant talk at Vogue House yesterday hinted at exciting trends for spring/summer 2012… and there’s certainly plenty to look forward to. Peplums, power pastels and paisley are all set to feature emphasising femininity, yet in an empowering manner. Peplums will accentuate silhouettes and call upon structured skirt suits, while powdery hues are intended to be exampled on sharp tailoring. The return of vintage paisley prints is welcomed as a refreshing alternative to florals and is likely to be adopted as a daywear staple.
Louder trends are set to hit the forefront too. Tribal prints are high on the summer agenda – animal and geometric block prints, with draping, raffia, weaving and particular emphasis around the neck. Decorative daywear, with a definite nod towards designer of the moment Mary Katrantzou, will detail “intricate 3D textures”, as indicated by our notes from Vogue’s lecture.
Classic crisp whites and florals will once again feature as timeless summer staples while sportswear opens a whole new arena to explore from high-tech fabrics to headgear such as hoods and caps, plus the comfort and functionality with no doubt be a draw.
Eveningwear will revisit decadent 20s styling, undeniably influenced by Woody Allen’s recent film Midnight in Paris (which I adored) and Baz Luhrman’s upcoming remake of The Great Gatsby. Drop waists and ornamental fringing are set to play significant roles – a wonderful return of old fashioned ladylike glamour.
Oversized slouchy bags will seldom be seen as they are replaced with shrunken down, angularly structured shapes. Particular emphasis was played on the manner in which they are held: shoulder straps are set to be taken over by hand-holding and “cuddling”.
In terms of the leap from catwalk to everyday life the majority of these appear manageable… now there’s the challenge of getting through the cold winter months before they can be tried and tested…xxx

Apple Tribute

A Steve Jobs shrine has begun to form outside Apple's flagship store on Regents Street following his untimely death yesterday. Tributes of flowers, cards, candles and apples have been laid in his honour, and with the surge of onlookers it's already attracting tributes only look set to grow...

Selfridges Cellar - The Museum of Everything

Last week I visited The Museum of Everything which has popped up in Selfridges from 2nd September until 25th October. For these two months, the Selfridges basement has morphed into an overcrowded haven of over 400 original artworks by mentally disadvantaged artists, many of whom have employed art as an alternative to language to break down frustrating barriers. Institutions such as HPCA have guided these unsung artists as students, helping them earn a living and redefine themselves. It was brush strokes that encouraged one such artist from Poznan in Poland, Henry Zarski, to utter his first words.

Ruby Bradford, whose portrait of Prince Charles has acted as the ambassador piece for the entire exhibition, is certainly one to watch. Only twenty-six years old the blurb next to her pieces read:

‘Superman, Prince Charles and Prince Williams star as leading men in the vivid painted canvases of this starry-eyed pop singer-songwriter.’

My personal favourite was Michael Gerdsman, born in 1968, from Hamburg. His work consisted of uniquely knitted and crochet everyday objects such as electrical appliances (a brilliant iPod with one red earphone, one blue, plus microphones and old fashioned telephones) and potted plants.

'Selfridges have invited us for an eight week sleepover', the flyer quips. With only a couple of weeks remaining, now is the time to go and lose yourself in The Museum of Everything.

Delevigne Duo

I am slightly under the spell of the Delevigne sisters at the moment. Despite the fact that their faces have featured frequently on ad campaigns, party photos and catwalks for a while now, they just keep growing on me. Elegant, feminine with a naturally sweet appearance (plus ridiculously nice wardrobes), there is something a little bit enchanting about the ice blondes...

Wedding Bells & Italic Pens

Wedding bells are ringing for my colleague Charlotte who is set to tie the knot on Saturday 15th October - so happy for her - congratulations Charl!

And excitingly she had a little business proposition for me. Having been taught to write in black italic pens for years at school, Charlotte has called upon my services to cast my quill on name places and table headings for her wedding - and I couldn't be more thrilled.

I have only done one table's worth so far but photos to be posted soon...x

JAEGER SHOW Saturday 17th September 3pm

Photos of Jaeger's spring/summer 12 collection that I snapped from the front row in Somerset House last Saturday. The sixties/seventies inspired collection was beautifully feminine, with strong themes of decadence and understated old school glamour shining through - show notes left on our seats indicated that this season's Jaeger girl visits Mustique: 'the exclusive playground of British rock stars and royalty'. Models paraded down the catwalk in a combination of wide stripes, breton stripes and block colours with heavy emphasis on girly broderie anglaise and pleats, accessorised with wedges, wide brimmed colonial hats and large vintage sunglasses. In the same way as Daks, Jaeger employed navies and ivories as chief tones, though their colour palette extended further to the likes of mint, apricot and buttermilk.
